When Elliott* was diagnosed with mesothelioma, he was in complete shock and, understandably, struggled to come to terms with it. However, very soon after he was diagnosed, his health rapidly deteriorated and, with the support of his family, Elliott made the difficult decision that he didn't wish to undergo any treatment for his condition and refused chemotherapy.

His devoted wife, Jane*, cared for Elliott at home with the additional support of his children, whenever possible. Initially, Elliott wanted to deal with the claim himself, so contacted asbestos disease specialists, Slater and Gordon.

A substantial offer of £235,000 to settle the case was put forward by the insurers of Elliott's former employer. However, at that point, Elliott's health deteriorated significantly and he made the decision that he would prefer for his family to continue with the claim posthumously. Elliott then sadly passed away.

In line with Elliott's wishes, our experts worked pushed forward as much as possible and were able to secure a further £45,000 Jane and the rest of Elliott's family, bringing the total settlement to £280,000.

No amount of compensation, could ever make up for the family's loss and Jane struggled to adjust to life without her partner and best friend, but it has given the family a sense of justice.

With the help of a charity specialising in assisting people with mesothelioma and their families, Jane was offered additional support to help her during the grieving and healing process.
